What can you do to prevent cyber bullying at your school (how can you be a good cyber-citizen)?
If you’re a parent, and your child is being bullied, it is important to not get angry or do anything without asking their child’s permission. kids often hide bullying from parents because they fear their parents will make things worse and embarrassing.
It is better helpful for parents to pretend they don’t know about the bullying at first (use the LATE strategy): -Listen (the parent has to listen to the child) -Acknowledge it hurts (the parent tells the kid that this is hurtful) -Talk about options (parents will need to talk about the different things the child can do) -End with encouragement (parent tells the child that things will get better) Schools and parents should also encourage students to be positive bystanders in online and offline settings. Those who witness bullying can help the person being targeted by standing up for them, telling a teacher or other adult, or by comforting them later. Students should be aware that they are contributing to bullying behaviour if they encourage the perpetrator or watch without taking action. |
